I’ve always heard that Charity starts at home. Well,  last week we roved that chairty starts at the home of online bingo - JackpotCity Bingo - when we donated £2000 to help the UK Cystic Fibrosis trust.

The Cystic Fibrosis Trust was established in 1964 to combat what has become the most common life-threatening inherited disease in the UK. The trust not only helps to provide a better life for Cystic Fibrosis sufferers, but also invests £4 million a year into finding a cure for this devastating disease.

Let’s pull together and fight to give all Cystic Fibrosis sufferers the life they deserve.

Speed Dating

Try something new to find your someone special

Try something new to find your someone special

Since we’re all so busy at work these days, I’ve started looking for different ways to meet the someone of your dreams. Speed dating could be the answer. Although not so traditional, its known to work.. isn’t that what counts?

The rules of speed dating are easy enough. Get together a group of singles, all with the same objective – to meet a potential partner. Arm them with a name tag, scorecard and a personality set on dazzle mode and you’ve got all the bits for a speed dating success. It may sound a bit clinical but who wants to sit on a date for hours with nothing in common and would rather be doing chores? For 7 minutes each “couple” is allowed to discuss anything except where they live or what they do. Then, a bell is run and the men move seats to meet their next date. After each 7 minute date, participants mark their scorecards. If a mutual interest arises, the speed dating organisers provide each participant with the other’s number. (zero stalker take up rates:)
If you’re tired of the usual bar scene or hopeless blind dates and have 7 minutes to spare, speed dating could be a fun, safe alternative for you.

Now you’re fired up to find Mr. Right - here are some warning signs.

He looked like Mr. Right, he sounded like Mr. Right, hell – he even acted like Mr. Right for a while. But all of a sudden he’s pulled a Jekyl and Hyde and all you’re left with is Mr. Wrong.

Here are some signs that he’s Mr. Wrong

  • * He “forgets” to bring money on your first date.
  • * He thinks you’ll be impressed when he tells you his ex-girlfriends were hot.
  • * He’s had more jobs in the last few years than you have pairs of shoes.
  • * His idea of celebrating your birthday doesn’t involve you.
  • *He paints his body for major sporting events.
  • * His mom calls to help patch things up when you’re in a fight with him.
  • * His idea of gourmet cooking is thawing a frozen pizza.
  • * He picks you up for an 8pm date… at 9.30pm.
  • * You’re constantly making excuses for why he “really is” Mr. Right when he’s really acting like a jerk.

So now you’ve established he’s the perfect gentleman and deserves your time and effort making him dinner.. what do you make? Here is a great hearty dinner and desert recipe designed to impress!

After all that talk of dating and recipes, I’m off to play some bingo ;)

Sliced chicken with chunky mushroom gravy
Ingredients
  • 4 pieces skinless, boneless chicken breasts
  • 2 tablespoons balsamic vinegar
  • ¼ cup extra virgin olive oil, plus extra for drizzling
  • Salt and pepper
  • 6 Portobello mushrooms or 24 cremini mushrooms, coarsely chopped
  • 2 tablespoons finely chopped fresh rosemary
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 2 cups chicken broth
  • 8 slices whole grain bread
  • 1 large bunch arugula, torn
  • ½ lemon

Directions
1. Coat the chicken in 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar and 1 tablespoon oil and season with salt and pepper. In a large skillet, heat 1 tablespoon oil, 1 turn of the pan, over medium-high heat. Add the chicken and cook for 5 minutes, then lower the heat to medium, flip the chicken and cook for 7 minutes more. Transfer to a cutting board to rest for a couple of minutes.

2. While the chicken cooks, heat another large skillet over medium heat and add the remaining 2 tablespoons oil, 2 turns of the pan. Add the mushrooms and cook, stirring often, until dark brown, 10 to 12 minutes. Stir in 1 tablespoon rosemary; season with salt and pepper. Scoot the mushrooms off to the side of the pan and add the butter to melt. Whisk in the flour and cook for 1 minute. Whisk in the remaining 1 tablespoon vinegar, then the chicken broth. Stir the mushrooms back in and simmer until the gravy is thickened, 2 minutes. Add the remaining 1 tablespoon rosemary and salt and pepper to taste.

3. Toast the bread and cut in half on an angle; arrange on 4 plates. Dress the arugula with a squeeze of lemon juice, a drizzle of oil and a sprinkle of salt and pepper. Slice the chicken on an angle. Top the toasts with the mushroom gravy, chicken and arugula.

Preparation time – less than 30 minutes. Cooking time – 10 to 30 minutes

Aelina has had twins so how is she going to lose her tummy and look gorgeous? How does Dayana Mendoza of Venezuela (who’s just been crowned Miss Universe 2008) keep herself looking good? Here are some tips to the flat tummy you’ve always wanted.

7 easy steps and you will soon see a major improvement and maybe even a six pack.

 Step 1:

Contract: At work, in the car or watching television, simply hold in your stomach for half a minute.

 Step 2:

Abstain: Give up fizzy drinks, alcohol and that little latte. Instead, drink water.

 Step 3:

Use an exercise ball: They’re inexpensive and effective and even better, they’re also good for your back.

 Step 4:

Try Pilates: This strengthens your core muscles and tones your entire body, especially your abs. If done regularly, it’s also effective in maintaining a flat tummy.

 Step 5:

Leg raises: Not only will this work your stomach, it’ll also tighten your thighs and bum. Lie on the floor and, while keeping your back flat on the floor, raise your legs slightly. Keep them up for about 10 seconds. Then rest and repeat.

 Step 6:

Knee raises: You need to be able to support your arms and raise your legs off the floor. Lifting your knees towards your chest gives your stomach a crunch it will never forget.

 Step 7:

Heart rate: Walk, job, cycle – whatever takes your fancy and gets your heart rate up. This way you’ll burn calories and lose a bit of weight.
